Art History in the Pub

‘Unpicking the Layers of Strange Worlds: the Vision of Angela Carter’ with Dr Marie Mulvey-Roberts, Associate Professor, UWE and Fiona Robinson RWA, artist-writer

THIS EVENT HAS ALREADY HAPPENED

On Monday 30 January, Art History in the Pub welcomed Dr Marie Mulvey-Roberts, Associate Professor in English Literature at UWE, and artist-writer Fiona Robinson RWA to the White Bear in St Michaels Hill. Co-curators of the current Strange Worlds exhibition at Bristol’s RWA (Royal West of England Academy), they will highlight different facets of a stimulating show that brings together contemporary and historical art to explore the work of Angela Carter, a major writer with a powerful visual imagination that delves into feminism, fantasy and sexuality. Marie will reflect on the challenge of translating a writer’s work into art and Fiona on the relevance of the exhibition’s multi-faceted contemporary work. Art History in the Pub talks are always very informal. This is the fourth in our 2016-17 season of events. The talks are of general interest, and anyone is welcome to come along and listen and ask questions. The talk will last for about 30 minutes, with a break for getting extra drinks, followed by general discussion. This event is free of charge. The talk will take place upstairs from the main bar area, and the pub does food for those wishing to eat before the event. Art History in the Pub events are organised by the Association of Art Historians. They are aimed at bringing interesting art historical research to a wider, public community.
