Strange Worlds Poetry Competition

THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED

Winners were announced – and the winning poem read out – on Sunday 19th March, the last day of the exhibition, at Marie Mulvey-Roberts’ reading at 3.15pm.

Angela Carter started off as a poet and wrote poetry while she was living in Bristol and studying at the University of Bristol. Her volume of poetry Unicorn edited by Rosemary Hill has been published recently.  The exhibition Strange Worlds: The Vision of Angela Carter (RWA 9 Dec-19 March 2017) which celebrates Angela Carter influences and influence on contemporary artists The Exhibition in turn has inspired contemporary music composers who have written pieces in response to individual art-works, UWE illustration students to create their own exhibition posters and several workshops run by artists including Layla Holzerā€™s shadow-puppet making sessions for adults and children.

Since the exhibition was a response to the words of Angela Carter, we invited visitors to respond to the artworks and artefacts in words, specifically through poetry.  You can visit the exhibition (free entry for students of UWE and Bristol Universities) or consult the Strange Worlds catalogue, or look at the view of the exhibition on the Strange Worlds Flickr website.
